If someone is wronged in the police station and brutalized by the police, if that footage is captured in the police station’s cc camera, you can get the cc camera footage by following these methods.
Regarding incident (unfair, injustice, or cruelty), first write a letter including to the Superintendent of Police, Karnataka State Director General of Police, and Inspector General of Police to protect and preserve the “cc camera footage” and request to provide a copy of the same in a pen drive. In that letter, clearly mention the incident (unfair, injustice, or cruelty) time, date, and address of the police station where incident happened and in that letter, clearly write about the brutality/injustice that happened in the police station and request an investigation. After writing the letter, file a Right to Information application stating the action taken on the letter and get a suitable reply. By writing a letter like this, there are chances that the CCTV footage of the incident will be preserved at some point. Then submit an RTI application to the Public Information Officer of the police station where the incident took place, seeking to provide the “cc camera footage.” In the Right to Information application, correctly mention the time, date, and address of the police station. Don’t sit around expecting that you will get “cc camera footage” in an RTI application. Because it takes a long time, there may be cases where you have to go to an appeal and a second appeal. Therefore, after filing an RTI application, immediately file a complaint in Police Complaints Authorities to get police station CCTV footage.
If there is an incident (unfair, injustice, or cruelty) in the station where there is a police sub-inspector (PSI), police inspector (PI), and circle police inspector (CPI), file a complaint with the “District Police Complaints Authority” and request to protect and preserve the “CC camera footage” and to provide a copy of the same in a pen drive. To complain in this District Police Complaints Authority, contact your district collector’s office. The Hon’ble Collector is the Chairman of this District Police Complaints Authority.
If there is an incident (unfair, injustice, or cruelty) in the station of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) and Superintendent of Police (SP), file a complaint about the injustice in the Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority and request to protect and preserve the “CC camera footage” and to provide a copy of the same in a pen drive. Karnataka State Police Complaints Authority is chaired by a retired High Court judge and the authority is people friendly.
A private complaint can also be filed in the court concerned, and a writ petition can also be filed in the High Court to obtain the “cc camera footage” of the injustice or brutality in the police station.
By following these methods, you can get the CCTV footage of the police station if you have been abused or treated unfairly by the police.
